Lyrics:

Here at the stage door I stand, girl
And wait for you each night
I watch while you sign your autograph
For everyone inside
Your dreams of fame have all come true
Now I'm just a no-one next to you
And you just can't look up to me like you used to do

Just like your valet I carry
Your baggage to the car
To your friends I'm your chauffeur
To the world I'm just a loafer, living off a star
Oh, the pain is so hard to bear
But what good would leaving you do
My heart would still be here
Here at the stage door
With you

Oh, the pain is so hard to bear
But what good would leaving you do
My heart would still be here
Here at the stage door
With you

Out of Los Angeles, the first and only single that vocal trio, Mike Piano, Richard Shoff and Jim Brady would issue on the A&M label as the GRADS. While they had recorded without success under that name on three other labels (Valiant, M~G~M and Mercury), a suggested name change by A&M Records co-owner, Herb Alpert, garnerd them a huge hit just a few months later. Picking the new group name, the SANDPIPERS out of a dictionary, the group embarked on a lucrative recording career with the label with many singles, albums and television and live performances. Relegated as the flip side, 'Stage Door' is a powerful ballad composed by Carole King and Gerry Goffin loaded with angst and drama. 'Everything In The Garden', a somewhat brassy production was the plug side.  Listen here
