WASHINGTON DC - History was made when the 110th Congress convened as Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) was sworn in as the first female to serve as Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives. The actual ceremony which took place in the Gallery, was followed later in the evening with a swearing-in celebration, held at the National Building Museum.

IDAHO - On Friday, January 5th, the acclaimed PBS program NOW aired a story about the Idaho White Clouds and the controversy currently surrounding the differing opinions about the best way to protect them. Correspondent Jon Christensen showed the breathtaking natural beauty of the hundreds of thousands of acres of public lands in the White Clouds and Boulder Mountains areas of Idaho. Long-time environmental activist Carole King appeared in the program, which provides an opportunity for viewers to see what is at stake and how the wilderness movement is changing.
